Nature and Biological Paintings
About Maggie
Margaret Mary Martin (nee Cooper) (5th July 1927 - 24th May 2019) was a secondary school teacher and watercolour artist, specialising mainly in botanical subjects.
She trained and worked as an artist and illustrator before starting a family (in 1958), but then turned to teaching biology, eventually becoming deputy head of a large comprehensive. After retirement she combined her interest in biology with her talents as an artist, beginning a long sequence of botanical watercolour works.
Her works are noted for technical skill, accuracy and high detail.
She was also a gifted illustrator across a range of subjects, including the human form. But she concentrated mainly on painting the flora she saw around her home in Dorset.
